Aki Cup Sponsored by Air Golf tried a new course yesterday for the fourth leg of the 2016 race. Sakura Golf Club in Ibaraki played host on an overcast but dry day. Aya Morohoshi had a great round scoring a net 68 (gross 89) to win the event and 530 points Aki Cup points.

Aya has been playing well recently, but she noted it was the first time to break 90 in several months. The win also gives her the lead in the overall points race with 941 points.

Dan Cooper also had a solid round on the day and came in second with a net 70 (gross 84).

Sakura Golf Club is reasonably close to Tokyo and is right next to Kasumidai CC where Aki Cup #3 was held.  It has 27 holes, and got mostly favorable comments from the players.  Although the facilities are a bit old, the South and West courses, played by the group, have a nice variety of holes. The overall course maintenance was good.  The West course nine includes three par 5s and three par 3s in the layout.

After current leader Aya Morohoshi (941 points), next in the points race standings is Steve Anthony with 741 points. John Evans follows in third place with 691 points.

Next stop on the Aki Cup points race will be at the Desmond Muirhead designed Fuji Classic on October 29th. It's a beautiful course with majestic Mount Fuji dominating the background on many holes. The event is already filled and waitlisted and will be the fifth of eight Aki Cup events.
