The recently renovated Tokyo Jumbo Golf Center (トーキョージャンボゴルフセンター)is a good choice for a golf range for those not too far from the Tokyo-Saitama border near Kawaguchi.
Some of the strong points include wide hitting bays, 230-yard length, and relatively cheap prices. There are four floors and more than 200 hitting bays, all of which have self-teeing machines that accept ¥1,000 or larger prepaid cards. The bay fee is a fixed ¥500 price and ball fees ranges from ¥10 to ¥23, with most times from ¥12 to ¥16. There is also a ¥300 night lighting fee if you come after 7p.m. One of the money saving options includes an “all-you-can-beat” (uchihoudai) time of 90 minutes (60 minutes on weekends) for ¥2,100 (3rd floor), ¥2,500 (2nd floor) or ¥3,000 (1st floor).
When I came here recently, I was impressed with the large bay size and that all the equipment appeared to be clean and fairly new. The balls were solid white and didn’t appear to have much usage. Higher floor choices at these kind of ranges can often result in a ceiling for ball flight, but that’s not the case here. I hit from the third floor and none of shots—including my wedges—hit the net ceiling.
Other positives include a full restaurant and a casual cafe on the second floor, a larger golf shop on the first floor, and smokers are only allowed to smoke in specially designated rooms on each floor.
One of the negatives of Tokyo Jumbo includes not being very close to a train line. They claim a 23 minute walk from the closest station—Minumadaishinsuikoen on the Toneri Liner. And while there is plenty of parking, some of the distant spaces are a few minutes walk from the entrance. And like many golf ranges in Tokyo, there is no grass practice putting green or dedicated chipping area. There is a place for bunker practice, but it is small and there is no green and pin to shot for.
If you think no one would have a need for a 24 hour driving range, please note that there are at least two others in Tokyo including Lotte Kasai in Edogawa-ku and Time Zips 24 in Nishitokyo-shi.
Have a good practice!
