Last Saturday, April 5th, 28 golfers kicked off the first ever Haru Cup golf tournament at Camp Zama Golf Course just outside Tokyo. On a crazy weather day, Canadian Chris Hurquin took first place and the 500 point prize. Chris shot a net 65
(gross 91) and also took a near pin prize on one par three and for the first
time scored two birdies in one round. In
addition, Chris won the Sagami Cup being played that day (42 Stableford points)
and the ¥15,000 first prize. The Sagami
Cup was a tournament for the same 28 players and organized by Jason Millward.
Second place and 350 points in the Haru Cup went to Aki Cup
winner Jensen Junn. Yasuo Asoh and Yasu
Iwatani shared third place and 225 points each.
The outing was something of a triple bonanza for Haru Cup
players as Zama Golf Course held its own
Sakura Tournament with prizes going to
all players that day. Several players
from this group picked up a new driver or wedge to add to their collection. It really was a good golf day for all who
attended.
The Next event, Haru Cup #2, takes place at the highly rated
Kodama Golf Course in Saitama. The event
is currently full and the weather forecast looks agreeable. The eighth and final Haru Cup event will also
take place at Kodama on June 21st.
