Aki Cup #6: Windsor GC Report

Windsor Park GC in Ibaraki hosted the sixth event of the 2014 Aki Cup yesterday and the event was won by Ann A. with a score of 65 (gross 95). This was Ann's first time to play in an Aki Cup event and she made the most of it, winning by three strokes and scoring 500 points. There was a tie for second with two players at 68 and 310 Aki Cup points.  Steve Anthony, one of the second place finishers, recorded the low gross of the day with a 78.  The other second place finisher, Stan Filin, carded a gross 101 to score his net 68.

It was a cool but clear autumn day at Windsor Park, and several fairway lining trees were still showing their spectacular autumn colors. The event's side bet consisted of a stableford tournament which was also won by Ann A. There were also closest-to-the-pin and longest drive competitions.  Greg Mettam won the closest-to-the-pin on the par 3 5th hole, while Dave Welch won the long drive competition on the 9th hole.

This event was an enjoyable golf outing and easily afforded the most colorful setting for an Aki Cup event.  A big thanks go to Greg Mettam for organizing the event and providing great prizes.

After 6 Aki Cup events, Savuth Kong, who did not play, still leads the race with 1310 points.  2014 Haru Cup winner Stan Filin moved into second with 1105 points.  For the points race, a player's top five scores are used in the calculation.

Aki Cup #7, the next and penultimate event, will take place at Narusawa GC in Yamanashi on Monday, November 23rd. A few spots are still available as of this writing.
